Fashion Aid 2010

Last night I was invited to photograph Fashion Aid 2010, which is the fashion world's equivalent of the Live Aid music concerts.  As an emerging photographer, this was my first event as a 'paparazzo' and was always going to be a challenging event to photograph, but one which I was looking forward to so that I could put my camera technique to the test. The stage lighting and smoky haze proved to be obstacles, but once they were overcome they helped to provide added impact and atmosphere to the image.  Here is one of the images from the parade, I'll upload some more images shortly!

No really, it's a building

Architecture is a popular subject in all forms of art.  People really appreciate the design, geometry and physics that goes into building structures of all sorts.  When attempting to capture them in photography, the key is to focus on a single key feature, and try to capture it in a creative way without revealing everything.

When displaying the above image, people often ask me "What is that?"
Of course after a few seconds they realise that it is a building of some sort, however those few moments of curiosity are what gives this image its unique appeal.

The Girl With Blue Eyes

Many elements need to come together to create a fantastic image.  Here, I wanted to capture the child's interaction with the animals.  Through patience and timing, I was able to isolate the moment of curiosity.  The child was encouraged to pat the animals, however she was in unfamiliar territory and this is evident in her tentative body language.

Larundel Mental Asylum

One of my friends from college had mentioned this place as a potential shot location.  When he presented his images in class I was dazzled.  This place has not been maintained for many years since it was abandoned and many say it has not been developed due to the fact that it is haunted. When I decided to visit this place, I wandered in through the barbwire fence and broken glass to find a decrepit, derelict and vile environment which betrayed its quaint surroundings.  There is a chill in the air and light struggles to find a way in.  I decided that I wanted to capture the battle between the light and darkness.  I feel this image of the 'mirror interrogation' room captures the battle between light and dark just the way I was experiencing it.  Just don't ask me what is lurking in that dark corridor!
